Team Backgrounds

Japan Women’s Cricket Team

Japan returns to action since their loss in the final against Hong Kong in the Women’s East Asia Cup in October 2024. The Japanese Premier League recently concluded on June 1st, with the Mamushi team lifting the trophy. The league featured overseas players from Sri Lanka, Australia, and other cricket-playing nations, providing valuable experience for the national team players.

Japan will be looking to leverage their home advantage and the experience gained from their domestic league to perform well in this tournament.

China Women’s Cricket Team

China will return to T20I action for the first time since their Quadrangular series last year in Hong Kong, where they competed against Hong Kong, Namibia, and Thailand. The Chinese team has been working hard on developing their cricket program and this tournament provides an excellent opportunity to measure their progress against regional rivals.

With a mix of experienced players and new talent, China aims to make an impact in this competitive tournament.

Hong Kong Women’s Cricket Team

Hong Kong is back in action after rain disrupted their T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers. Last week, their CHK Women’s Premier T20 League concluded with CCC Women’s Premier team lifting the trophy by beating HK Cricket Club. Kary Chan won the Player of the Match in the final, showcasing the depth of talent in Hong Kong cricket.

As one of the more experienced teams in the region, Hong Kong will be strong contenders for the trophy.

Philippines Women’s Cricket Team

This is the Philippines’ second T20I tournament in 2025; they last played in the Kartini Cup in April, which also featured Indonesia and Cook Islands. The Philippine team has been making steady progress in women’s cricket and their inclusion in this tournament provides valuable exposure against higher-ranked opponents.

The team will be looking to gain experience and potentially cause some upsets during the competition.

Mongolia Women’s Cricket Team

This will be Mongolia’s first international assignment since November 2024. Notably, they held a U19 National Championship this May, indicating growing interest and development of cricket in the country. Mongolia’s women’s team has shown promise in recent years and will be eager to demonstrate their improvement in this tournament.

As one of the emerging cricket nations in the region, Mongolia’s participation helps grow the game across East Asia.

In case of equal points, net run rate will be used to determine standings.

  • The third and fourth-placed teams will compete in a Third Place Playoff
  • The fifth-placed team will conclude their tournament after the group stage
